Director Andy Muscietti answered questions about the actor after the screening
the flash, the film that will attempt to bridge the gap between the old DC Cinematic Universe and the new, has finally had a public premiere (rather). The film was screened Tuesday at Warner Bros. Cinemacon panel. Discovery, which is aimed primarily at theater owners and exhibitors (as well as some members of the press), and appears to have received overwhelmingly positive reception. But controversy and legal issues still surround the film’s star, Ezra Miller.
The film’s debut has garnered high praise from various attendees, though reactions have so far been limited to social media. These mostly positive shots come on the heels of a variety of people, from DC Studios head James Gunn to CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zazlav, saying the movie was among the best superhero movies they’ve ever seen – which many of the reactions seem to agree with.
Although these reactions made a lot of noise the flash In place, they don’t offer much about the film’s plot, although it’s said to provide the entire DC Universe with a cinematic reset that will unleash James’ new DC movie slate. Gunn and Peter Safran.
Along with all of the accolades, the film’s director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti were also faced with a few questions about the film’s star.
Over the past two years, Miller has been arrested multiple times and still faces charges in multiple states, for various allegations including disorderly conduct, harassment and assault. Miller also had a restraining order filed against them and faced grooming charges. Miller has since released a statement, saying they were in the midst of an intense mental health crisis and are now recovering and seeking treatment. The Muschietti siblings echoed that sentiment and said a lot more in their post-screening panel, per Entertainment Weekly:
“We all hope they get better… They are taking the necessary steps to recover,” Andy Muschietti said. “They have mental health issues, but they are fine. We spoke to them not too long ago, and they are very determined to improve.
The siblings also praised Miller’s good behavior on set, adding that “their commitment to the role was something we had never seen.”
As the film nears release, it’s unclear whether Miller will be part of the film’s larger promotional program or not. With Miller, the flash also stars Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck – who both play their own versions of Bruce Wayne and Batman – Michael Shannon, who returns as Zod, and Sashe Calle, who plays Supergirl. the flash is slated for a theatrical release on June 16.
