Talk about a snooze-fest.
Fans fear ‘mundane’ domestic drama could overflow ‘Live With Kelly and Mark’ after Kelly Ripa played a recording of husband and new co-host Mark Consuelos snoring in bed.
Ripa, who has been on ‘Live’ since 2001, hit out at her snoring spouse during a segment on Tuesday, a day after he officially joined her as co-host of the long-running daytime show .
“Most nights, that’s how I wake up,” Ripa said of Consuelos’ loud snoring. “That’s my mid-night alarm.”
She then turned off her phone to play audio of her husband’s heavy breathing at bedtime – a move that left many viewers unimpressed.
“Remember the days with (original co-host) Regis (Philbin) where REAL current and social issues were discussed? NOT ‘Bedtime eating and sleeping habits’ or ‘We walk or jog in Central Park’ or many other mundane things we talked about! Big fail!!” a fuming fan on Twitter.
“So you’ll be talking about your marriage and your home life all morning,” another groaned. “Maybe you two need a reality show.”
A third intervenedstating, “Kelly Ripa is an asshole who plays her snoring husband. I’m so done with this show.
“It couldn’t be more obvious that Kelly and Mark aren’t doing their homework to talk about more current events. They went down to playing a recording of Mark’s snoring! We are doomed with these two! Goodbye!” another unimpressed viewer declared.
Meanwhile, another woman took to social media to say it was painful to constantly hear about the couple’s marriage.
“I’ve been watching since before Kelly but I think it’s time to move on. I love Kelly and Mark but I’m a widow, I’m watching this show to lift my spirits and make me smile,” the woman writing. “Two days later, I’m sick of hearing about their perfect love, life and family. It’s too much.”
However, many others said they enjoyed watching Ripa and Consuelos share the screen together.
“OH MY GOD! Is it me or did @kellymarklive get a shot of energy? I totally enjoyed (former co-host) Ryan Seacrest, but this new energy and chemistry with Mark Consuelos is just different.” we applauded.
Another fan loved: “Love to see you together! You are a strong, loving and family oriented couple and I appreciate you sharing your life with us. I’m glad Mark is now a permanent member of the team. show! God bless you and your family!”
Consuelos has been a guest co-host of “Live” for several years, but Monday marked her first official day as a permanent fixture on the show.
The actor – who replaced Ryan Seacrest – received mixed reviews on his first day, but ABC believes he will be a hit alongside his wife.
He recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he thinks he and Ripa will bring something new and exciting to television for viewers back home.
“I don’t think it’s been done. I think there’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, doing “Morning Joe.” It’s a different show, though. It’s very new,” he said. “So that would be unique and a big part of that is a married couple on TV with a unique perspective.”
“Live With Kelly and Mark” airs weekdays on ABC.
