It all started last year when it was announced that the event would honor the late Karl Lagerfeld, despite his controversial past.
Following the announcement of the gala theme, Jameela opened up about Karl’s past, reminding fans that he “used his platform in such a distinctly hateful way, primarily towards women, repeatedly and up until now. to the last years of his life, showing no remorse.”
Although many people agreed with Jameela’s sentiments, no changes were made and the gala continued with the theme scheduled for last Monday.
And shortly after hundreds of celebrities hit the carpet at the event, Jameela spoke out again – noting the hypocritical nature of many attendees.
“Last night, Hollywood and fashion spoke the quiet part out loud when many famous feminists chose to celebrate at the highest level, a man who was so publicly cruel to women, fat people, immigrants and victims. of sexual assault,” she wrote. “And all of the women’s publications, and viewers online, chose to happily ignore it.”
She continued: “Suddenly your appetite for finding someone’s tweets at the age of 12 is gone. No one has perfect morals, let alone me, but Jesus Christ, we had a year to of course here, and not awarding the highest honor possible to a notorious fanatic.”
Jameela went on to call out anyone who “all of a sudden decided we could separate the art from the artist whenever it was convenient for them.”
“It’s one rule for us, and another rule for everyone else. Last night we gave up our right to be taken seriously about anything important,” she concluded.
In the caption, Jameela added that her post wasn’t about cancel culture or Karl — it was about the selectivity of cancel culture.
“It’s about showing how deep the culture of selective undo is within liberal politics, in the most blatant way so far. It’s about showing why people don’t trust liberals “, wrote Jameela. “Because of slippery tactics and double standards like this.”
She continued, “And it’s not just Hollywood here, the general public online participated and were fully complicit in the erasure of the truth last night. They replaced their pitchforks with spoons last night, to lap up this shit.”
Jameela concluded her statements by saying that if people “keep it up” they shouldn’t be “shocked when we lose the next election”.
